अगस्त १९८९ के अंतिम दिनों से १.५ मीटर ऊँचाई और ८ टन वजन का यह भारी भरकम व्यक्ति मानव की श्वसन क्रिया के औसत वेग से हथौडा़ चलाये जा रहा है। जोनाथन बोरोफ़्स्की के अनुसार 'बासेल' शहर के ऐशेन्प्लाज़ चौक पर स्थित ये "उन (हम) सब के लिये जो इस पृथ्वी के वातावरण को जीवन के उपयुक्त एवं रहने के योग्य बनाते हैं" एक प्रतीक को प्ररूपित करता है, चल-चित्र अगली प्रविष्टि में।Since the end of August 1989 this giant with a height of 13.5 metres and a weight of 8 tons has been swinging his hammer in the steady rhythm of a man's breathing. According to Jonathan Borofsfy, at his location on the Aeschenplatz he is intended to serve as a symbol "for all of us who are working together to make our environment on this planet safe and worth living in". White Hibiscus::उज्ज्वल गुड़हल।

वैसे तो गुड़हल का पुष्प कई अन्य रंगों का भी होता है, मुझे गहरा लाल एवं सफ़ेद विशेष रूप से प्रिय हैं, इस बार जब मैं इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय के वनस्पति विज्ञान विभाग (मैने यहाँ पर १९९३-९६ के मध्य वनस्पति शास्त्र का अध्ययन किया था) की ओर गया तो इसे देखकर मन उल्लसित हो गया। आप भी देखिये ।

Hibiscus flowers are found in many shades, yet I like specially the dark red and white ones. Last month while being in INDIA, I also went to Botany Department(I completed my Bachelor's from here during 1993-96) of Allahabad University just to notice the changes, although there were lots of things to be sad about..this one really introduced some joy!

Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis::गुड़हल

गुड़हल का लाल पुष्प उत्तरी भारत मे बहुतायत से पाया जाता है, जिसका उपयोग मुख्यतः पूजा पाठ के दौरान किया जाता है, वनस्पति विज्ञान के अनुसार इसे "मालवेशी" कुल में वर्गीकृत किया गया है और हिबिसकस रोज़ा साइनेन्सिस इसका वानस्पतिक नाम है। इसी कुल का एक अन्य महत्त्वपूर्ण सदस्य है भिन्डी का पौधा। इसका लम्बा जायाँगधर और उसके चारों ओर लगे पुमंग और अंत मे स्थित पाँच भागों मे विभाजित जायाँग इसके पुष्प को आकर्षक स्वरूप प्रदान करते हैं। यह साधारणतः लाल रंग का होता है। अगर आपने कभी ध्यान दिया हो तो भिन्डी के और इसके पुष्प मे बहुत सारी समानतायें हैं।This is among the common flowering plants in northern INDIA, with vernacular name as "GuDahal". Botanical name is Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis, and belongs to Malvaceae. The main attractions of the flower apart from its large corrola are the Androecium and a pentapartite stigma at the top. Another example of the plant from this family is the plant of Lady Finger(Vegetable)or Bhindi. Ever compared the Flowers of these plants? Their flowers are technically identical
